The children’s homework this week will be sent home in their book bags. This will be an activity practising their phonics (adding the sound buttons and reading the words like we showed you in parents evening). Please let your child do this independently.
Thank you the Year 1 Team
Just a quick reminder that it is World Book Day tomorrow (2nd March). Children can come dressed as an animal or book character… and if they do not wish to do this then they can come dressed as themselves.
From The Year 1 Team
Homework this week is set on Purple Mash and it is all about the human senses.
Homework this week will be paper based and handed out today (25th January) and due in on Wednesday 1st February. This week we have been looking at what is a good friend and what is a bad friend and the homework is getting the children to think about what qualities they want in their friends.
Quick update on reading, as they are building their skills and beginning to decode (sound out) less please try to read all books more than once to encourage fluency of reading. Each time they do this the words they read by sight should increase each time.
Thank you for your support
From the Year 1 Team
Calling all Year 1 Parents/Carers,
On Tuesday 29th November we are going to be designing and making sleighs for Santa! In order to do this, we need some materials for the children to make their sleighs. The Year 1 team would really appreciate it if you could start collecting materials at home such as boxes, milk cartons, egg cartons, pringle tubes, bottles etc to bring into school for the children to build their inventions. We would like the materials to be brought in on Monday 28th November. Thank you and happy collecting.
We have had some parents ask why their child are not getting new star words. The star words should be read by sight. The words should not be sounded out as they are tricky words and tricky words cannot be sounded out, they just have to be learnt. If your child reads each word by sight without hesitation, then they will be given the next sheet.
This week’s Twinkl GO code for Rhino Readers is: DS8245
Please join us for our curriculum meetings. They’re a fantastic opportunity to meet your child’s new teaching team and to learn more about what’s in store for the children this year. This is especially important if your child is in Year 6 or Year 2 as SATS information will be shared.
