Wild in Art - The Worcester Waddle

Wild in Art

The Great Worcester Waddle has arrived!

The Great Penguin Bake Off is Wednesday 24th April. Details in the letter above and on email from the office!

Apologies for the confusion around the t-shirts!  Perhaps it was not clear enough that the order form and payment system were two separate things.  We’ve done what we can to chase and clarify, and the order has now been placed.  If you’ve not paid for a t-shirt from us you can still provide one yourself – in time for Monday 22nd April – and then pay the £2 on ParentPay for the activity.  Remember this is a fundraiser after all!

T-shirts can be worn to school on Thursday 25th April for some filming and for our farewell assembly on Monday 29th April.  And, of course, around the trail in Worcester when you go to see all the penguins in the summer!  It’s probably easiest just to add the t-shirt to the normal school uniform.  It might be, however, that teachers keep the t-shirts in school for ease so just send in normal uniform and we’ll put the t-shirts over the top.  If anyone has an actual penguin outfit, feel free to send it in… it will look great on the video!

The media permission form is now closed.  We’ve done our best with this but a few people that didn’t fill in the proper form slipped through the gaps with messages and phone calls that didn’t reach me!  Sorry!

The Mayor of Redditch visited on Monday 4th March, along with our Sponsors at Thorlux, to unveil a fantastic penguin sculpture which is going to be part of The Great Worcester Waddle!  Our design competition has now closed and we’ve chosen our design team – see image below.  Thank you for all the wonderful entries.  There is a letter about our Trail T-shirt Project and our Penguin Bake Off in the folder above.   Click the image to see the video of how we met our penguin!

Meet our Penguin

A new arrival has caused quite a lot of excitement at school!

There are going to be lots of fun activities and events, and we also hoping to raise money for St. Richard’s Hospice.  Here are some brief details:

  • Week of 15th April – KS2 painting.
  • Week of 22nd April – PENGUIN WEEK – a week of events, t-shirt making, filming and art activities.
  • Wednesday 24th April – cake and biscuit competition – details in letter.
  • Thursday 25th April – Filming – children can wear trail t-shirts
  • Monday 29th April – Farewell assembly – children can wear trail t-shirts
  • 22nd July to 15th September – The trail is live in Worcester – go and enjoy!

Looking Back:  We had ENORMOUS fun in 2021 with our ele-baby!  She arrived in the spring and we launched straight into a design competition.  With so many wonderful ideas submitted, we created a composite design and then set out to have every person in the school take a turn at painting.  That’s nearly 450 people!  Once she was finished she was part of the summer trail around Worcester and it was great fun going to visit her and her friends!  The project came to a close when our lovely ‘Mem’ returned to make her forever home at school in October.  Such great memories!   The project eventually raised £370,000 for St Richard’s Hospice.  Click the images to see our videos!

Our final design is a globe, showing the whole world in unity, combined with memory bubbles of those things we should remember when life is challenging – family, friendship, love and fun etc.  There are lots of rainbow colours and some Indian patterns.  We’ve chosen to call her Memorella Indigo.

There will be lots of other schools involved in the trail and this will give ‘Mem’ lots of friends and siblings!  We’re delighted to have had a sneak preview of INKY-B from Inkberrow school.  Look out for this one on the trail!

Our t-shirt fundraiser raised over £530 for St Richard’s Hospice – many thanks for your generous support.

Remember to send in your photos of all those yummy cakes and foods and we’ll display them below.

Meet the design team below and see some of their entries that we combined to make our finished masterpiece!
