Our Year 4 boating sessions have been a wonderful success!  Across the three groups, we’ve had the excitement of near-hurricane-strength wind, a torrential downpour… and a thunder& lightening storm the like of which this earth has never seen!!  All that is left for us now is the regatta.

The weather for the regatta is due to be extremely hot.  Please make sure children have sun cream applied (and brought with them to re-apply as needed) and sun hats.  Please make sure they have water bottles too.  We’ll keep everyone in the shade when not racing and we do expect it to be cool enough by the lake.  In order for us to finish the day by 1pm and avoid the worst of the heat, we’ll only compete in one timed race and then straight into the series of finals.  Our heats are 10:40 (4S) and 11:00 (4W).  The finals run from 11:30.  After our lunch and ice creams, you’re welcome to take your own child home around 1/1:30.  If you want your child taken home by another parent, please let me know by email beforehand.  Anyone not collected from the lake will be brought back to school for the usual end-of-day pick up.

Children are encouraged to wear light clothing and consider long sleeves rather than t-shirts.  Part of our risk assessment is giving children opportunity and experience of looking after themselves in extreme heat and building some skills for the future.

Spectators can arrive whenever they like and bag a nice shady spot lakeside – around the right side of the lake but don’t go too far away.  If you’re there before us, try and sit together and save us a spot to put our gazebo.  There may well be another one there already for us.
