Our wonderful school orchestra includes children who have instrumental lessons in school and also some who have private lessons.  In addition there are handbell, glockenspiel and percussion players as required. Please read our media statement right at the bottom of the page.

  • New players in our orchestra will need to give specific media permission so we can share video footage of our concerts.  See our media statement below.  This can be just a simple email to the office and needs to be done only once.
  • All recorder players will need their instruments on Monday 23rd June for a rehearsal.
  • All musicians will need to bring instruments to school on Monday 30th June for rehearsals throughout the day, and also for a performance to the rest of the school in the afternoon.  Children may then wish to leave instruments in the hall ready for Tuesday evening. If you are unsure if your child is involved on this occasion, please check with their instrument teacher.
  • If you have a folding music stand, please sent it into school on Monday 30th
  • Tuesday 1st July is the evening performance to parents.  The performance will be in the school hall.  Children should arrive with their parents, through the front gate nearest the crossing, around the left side of the hall by the car park and in through that side door.  Doors will not open until 5:15. (Guitars and violins may be called through slightly earlier for tuning.)
  • Children can wear their own clothes in our orchestra style – plain bright colours and dark trousers, leggings or skirts.  See the photo on the orchestra page for examples.
  • We will be very tight for space so please limit audience to two seats per family.  There are no actual tickets.  Adults should take their seats quickly and children go straight to their places:
  • On arrival, violinists and guitarists please go straight through into Mrs Roberts’ class where you can set up and leave your instruments.  Mrs Nixon, Miss Bubb and Mr Iliffe will be on hand for tuning.
  • Glockenspiel players, drummers and pianists please take your places on the benches.
  • Recorder players can take your instruments straight onto the stage and sit in your places.
  • We will record video footage of the evening so there’s no need to sit with your phones out.  We are particularly media-sensitive on this occasion so please do not post anything online yourselves.
  • Many thanks for all your support in helping to prepare the children for this performance.  I’m sure they will do you proud!

Please note, we don’t always include all of our instrumental players for every concert.  This is for a numbers of reasons; we are limited by hall capacity and running time but also want to make sure children have developed enough confidence to perform.  There’s nothing worse than putting a child in a concert situation before they’re ready – and this can be very damaging.  Rest assured that there will be plenty of opportunities just around the corner!

Joining the orchestra – statement

Upon joining orchestra, we ask for a specific media consent.  We take online safety very seriously; no child will be named in our videos and links will be posted on the orchestra page.  As a school we can’t guarantee how this material will be used once it is in the public domain.  If you have any questions or concerns about this issue please do ask.

From May 2022, when joining orchestra, you are agreeing to the following statement: My child would like to join the school orchestra and I am happy for video footage and photographs to be taken at concerts and events.  I am also happy for photos and video featuring my child to appear online, such as on YouTube, and also in local newspapers.  I will inform school if this situation changes.

If your child wants to join, but you are unable to give this media consent for whatever reason, please do come and talk to me and we may be able to make a separate provision.  Remember the first port of call for information is here on the website.

Mr George
